Since time began, there have been social predators who attack any area of vulnerability in a child (or adult, for that matter). When programs are introduced to combat racism, sexual abuse, violence, and now, "homophobia and heterosexism", they are doomed to failure because there is usually another purpose attached to the program. Many of these programs are social engineering in disguise, and sometimes the veneer of honourable purpose is quite thin. One main reason they fail, however, is because the school or any other institution is not structured or appropriate to replace the home as the place of nurturing and guidance for a child. To use the excuse that some parents are fouling up to justify an intrusion into all families is unwarranted. The vast majority of families teach tolerance for others who have a disability, have a different skin colour, or other unalterable condition. No one is required, however, to tolerate a lifestyle which offends a family's beliefs or firmly held religious convictions.EXERCISE YOUR RIGHTS TO PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN!Citizens Research Institute has developed this DECLARATION OF FAMILY RIGlITS, which is an instrument enabling parents to inform a school or other institution of restrictions to be placed on programs and activities which violate their child's family values. Parents are encouraged to file this Declaration with their school and obtain some assurance that it will be honoured. It is apparent that parents can no longer depend on verbal or informal means of asking for their rights to be upheld in the school. This Declaration is intended to provide a specific, legal process for informing the school of a legitimate request, and to enable the teachers to be properly informed of the limits of authority granted by the parents.LET OTHERS KNOW OF THIS OPTION!You are free to photocopy this document and letter for wider circulation and use, but please honour the nature of the document by having it copied in its exact form, and with a reasonable quality of reproduction (i.e. Fax copies are not appropriate nor are shadowed copies).
