In the 17 hundreds several philosophers proposed the concept of "natural rights," rights belonging to a person because he was a human being, In 1776 the British colonies in North America proclaimed their independence via the U.S. Declaration of Independence, conceiving the concept of universal rights. Henry David Thoreau uses the term "human rights" in his treatise, Civil Disobedience as does John Stuart Mill, in his Essay on Liberty and Thomas Paine in his essay, The Rights of Man. In 1961, journalists, writers, and others, offended by the sentencing of two Portuguese college students to twenty years in prison for having raised their glasses in a toast to "freedom" in a bar, scribed the Appeal for Amnesty.. The appeal grew and Amnesty International the modern human rights movement was born. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms states that everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: (a) freedom of conscience and religion; (b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication; (c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and (d) freedom of association. From such noble and principled beginnings the Canadian Human Rights Commission was proclaimed in 1978 with a mandate to "enforce" the Canadian Human Rights Act. In less than 20 years the Eastern Mandarins in Ottawa intoxicated by an elixir of multiculturalism and pedantic rhetoric have managed to subvert the ideals of Human Rights for all Canadian Citizens to a "witch hunt" serving only minority interest groups disguising their perverse agendas in the cloak of Freedom at the expense and detriment of those holding the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Paramount. The Canadian Human Rights Commission and its' Provincial little brothers are wolves in sheep clothing. They inflict punishment without recourse on Canadian Citizens exercising their fundamental Rights. They appear to interpret & enact laws and regulations that learned judges would dismiss as contravening Your Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms |
