Reform BC Leader Wilf Hanni today faxed a letter to B.C. Attorney General Ujjal Dosanjh, asking him to use his power as Attorney General to have the William Bennest case re-opened. William Bennest is the Burnaby school principal who was charged with procuring sex from a person under 18, making pornographic material and possession of child pornography. The first two charges were stayed by Crown Counsel and the charge of possession of child pornography netted Mr. Bennest a suspended sentence. Crown was not even able to persuade the judge to force Bennest to take counseling for his addiction.
In his letter, Hanni called on Dosanjh to use his power as Attorney General to ensure that justice is served by putting this pedophile behind bars where he belongs.
"Where is the justice in the justice system when a man like William Bennest is able to walk away from court a free man, despite overwhelming evidence to support a guilty verdict on very serious charges." said Hanni.
He also called on the Attorney General to conduct an investigation into the handling of this case by crown counsel.
