Here are some ideas on fund raising and action you can take:
1.Call, fax or write BCTF executive members and urge them to publicly condemn the actions of the Surrey School Board.
Ask them to earmark money from the BCTF to help fund this important case.
2.Encourage the Teacher-Librarian in your elementary school to purchase the banned books and use them in your
classroom. Many schools in the Metro area have already done so.
3.Put forward a motion at your next teaching association's meeting to have your local make a donation to the "Action Fund
To Fight Book Banning In Our Schools".
4.Hold 50/50 draws at your local association meetings to raise money for the case.
5.Check out this web site for frequent updates on the case.
6.Encourage your student council or a few students in your school to start a "Loonies Against The Lunacy" campaign to
fight book banning in schools. High schools throughout the lower mainland will be launching this campaign in September.
Your school might want to challenge a neighbouring school. (Please note any money raised over and above court costs
will be used to purchase gay and lesbian friendly resources for BC schools.)
7.Print out our PETITION and get as many signatures as possible.
